I thought about the decision my mom told me,”Do you want to play soccer? You will have so much fun.” I was five at the time and I said yes to almost everything so I told my mom that I want to play soccer and have fun like she said. After that the next day, my mom went to where they sign people up for AYSO. But there was a problem, I didn’t know how to play soccer and I was getting really nervous about that.
I was at my first ever soccer practice and already I wanted to go home, but my mom told me that there’s no turning back because she already signed me up. The coach asked me first what was my name and I told him and the team in a shy voice,”My name is Adrian Esparza. Everyone there laughed but at the end of practice some of my teammates came up to me and were nice to me and they introduced themselves. We practiced for a week before the coach go our jerseys. The jersey was blue, but if you put it inside-out, it becomes red. Every kid in my division AYSO had them so they weren’t as special as I thought at first.
It was finally time to play my first game and I remember I had black and green nike shoes and I loved them. But when i saw other kids play, it made me nervous. I asked my parents if we could go back home. My dad who was known in soccer and won three trophies from the Ventura division said that I should give soccer or as my dad and most of the world says,”futbol”. I finally played my first game, won 3-2, and I scored my first goal. The game I didn’t know how to play, now was becoming very easy. Throughout the rest of the season, I played my very best and at the end of the season, my team won 4th place, and surprisingly I scored the most goals of my team. This was the start of an eternal love for soccer.
Throughout the years I loved soccer and I still do to this day. I’ve been in Ventura All-Stars twice, and won seven trophies. I remember that my dad went up to me and said face to face that he was proud of me. So far within five years, I’ve been in four soccer stadiums, The Levi’s Stadium, Estadio Azteca, the Rose Bowl Stadium, and the StubHub Stadium. This love will always be with me until the day I die.
